The short trip will go to a spot along the river before returning. The longer trip goes to a beach on Bellport Bay (wind permitting) or explores a channel or two. Learn about the condition of the river, spartina and phragmites plants, and take note of changes in the flora as we transition from the fresher to the saltier water and higher to lower ground. Learn about the creatures that inhabited the shells we find at the bay beach. Identify the birds (e.g. herons, egrets, marsh wrens, redwing blackbirds, gulls, cormorants, osprey, and maybe eagles), plants (e.g. reeds, spartina grasses, seaweeds) and other species we encounter (previously seen: muskrat, raccoon, and turtles).
