HIKE, CONNETQUOT ST. PK

  • 4095 West Club Rd North Great River, NY (map)

SAT NOV 7 – HIKE, CONNETQUOT ST. PK:

12:00 to 1:30 – 2.9 mi. (All Trails) – flat – slow to moderate pace. Registration required: call or email Jane 631-689-1568 or jfasullo2@gmail.com – This is a joint hike with the Sierra Club L.I. Group

Starting at the parking lot on the left after the toll both at the Sunrise Highway entrance to the park, walk to the restrooms then to the fish hatchery where you can read about how it operates and see the various size-based containments areas. Continue up the west bank of the river, then cross on an earthen dam and return to the main pond and water mill along the east side. With luck, we will find the artesian wells. All along, some native and invasive plants will be pointed out and you can listen for birds. At the end, view water fowl on the pond as you learn a bit about the pond, the dam, the mill and the large buildings there. By the end, you’ll know what poison ivy looks like in the fall after the leaves drop (yes, you CAN GET POISON IVY at this time), and know why so many of the pines died. Address: 4095 W. Club Rd., N. Great River. Any rain cancels this event.
