Learn about the Edgewood-Oak Brush Plains Preserve’s significance to groundwater recharge, drinking water, wildlife (plants and animals), and get a short history of the park and the Pilgrim State Hospital that once stood here. This state-owned, 843-acre nature preserve, is the only remaining pitch pine, scrub oak wildlife habitat and groundwater recharge land west of the Pine Barrens. Some sandy areas and some potentially wet spots. No bathrooms. Beverage suggested. Rain cancels. Meet at the parking lot, east side of Commack Road, about 2 mi. south of LIE exit 52.
